Sprint 9 - User Trials

User Trial Sessions

This sprint I arranged two user trial sessions where I invited a selection of club members to use the current version of the application.  The purposes of this was to:

  • Monitor how the application handles multiple users
  • Monitor how users pick up how to use the application without instruction
  • Find defects in the application
  • Get feedback on the application
Session 1: This had 4 users (including myself) and got some great feedback.  All users managed to complete the tasks with minimal guidance.  We also identified 3 small bugs that I fixed before the next session.

Session 2: This had 6 users (including myself) and again got some great feedback.  All users managed to complete the tasks with minimal guidance.

It's clear from the positive feedback that the key strength of the application is the boat bookings and the way all the details of the trip are held together in one place.  I need to keep the strength in mind when introducing new features.

Trip Report

A new view has been added to look at past trips.  For trip organiser, a button is available to get a trip report that can be edited and submitted to the Treasurer.

Tidy Up

Before the trial sessions I spent some time tidying up the screens and removing the 'Cars' tab that was no longer necessary.

Sprint 8 - Final User Stories for MVP

Import Boatlist

Up until now, I've been testing the application with some test boat data, but to trial, I'd prefer actual boat data to be used.  This was created by copying the boat data from the current inventory pages into a CSV file and then import into the database.  I can use the CSV files to verify the data later and re-import prior to go-live.

Access Report

This is a new report that can be run by the Equipment Officers to see what movements are expected over the coming week.

Status Icons and Phone Numbers

The organiser can see at a glance on the participants which members are 'trip ready' by looking at the status icons on the top right of each participant.  Also, the trip organiser's telephone no is now available so that they can be contacted about the trip.

Also the phone number of the driver of a car is also displayed so that they can be contacted prior to booking slots on their vehicle.

Additional Details

Finally, the organiser can now provide some free text additional details for the trip.  This is intended to be the content of the opening post on the trip forum.

MVP V1.0

This is now functionally complete.  The beginning of the next sprint will be used to tidy up the screens and refactor where necessary.  I will also arrange a trial of this app with some kind volunteers.
